Mamba Day! A Celebration of Kobe & Gigi Bryant. Tustin Playground. The Place #WhereTheGreatsPlay
Founded in 1934, this historic recreation center was dedicated in honor of Ernest L. Tustin. Tustin was a lawyer, served as state senator, was active in the Baptist church and had many charitable causes. He also served as President of the Playground Association. At the time of his death, he was praised for his “devotion to the cause of children…and his persistent efforts to obtain sufficient playgrounds for them.”
Tustin Playground is known as a place of basketball greatness. NBA great Kobe Bryant, Wilt Chamberlain and every basketball player who attended Overbrook High School, most basketball leagues and countless players know Tustin Playground for being filled with basketball history. Kobe, whose family lived across the street, visited often and publicly acknowledged that Tustin’s fabled courts are one of the places where he learned his craft and became the only NBA player to play his entire 20 year career for one team. Check out the video excerpt below from his retirement press conference to hear Kobe in his own words speak about his fans and Tustin Playground.
in 2022, the Mamba Mambacita Sports Foundation (led by Vanessa Bryant), Nancy Lieberman Charities, (led by WNBA GOAT Nancy Lieberman) and the City of Philadelphia Department of Parks & Recreation installed the Kobe & Gigi Dream Courts in memory of Kobe & Gigi Bryant who died tragically in a helicopter crash several years before. The Kobe Gigi Dream Courts have become a national and international destination for everyone including travelers who wish to honor their memory and share their unwavering love and respect.
Every August 24, we celebrate the life and legacy of Kobe and Gigi. Join us! Everyone is welcome at the place #WhereTheGreatsPlay
